What is Popmoney?
Popmoney is a person-to-person payment system available to Middlesex Federal Online & Mobile Bill Pay Users. It is an easy way to securely send, receive, or request money from family, friends, or other contacts without having to exchange financial account information.

How do I get Popmoney?
Middlesex Federal Online & Mobile Banking Users can access Popmoney in the Bill Pay section. After the first Payee is created in Bill Pay, the Popmoney tab will be available.

Register or Login.

 

How does it work?

    Send Money:
  • Click on the "Send Money" tab and select or add the recipient’s contact information (email address, mobile phone number, or bank information). Use the import contacts feature to download your contacts directly into Popmoney.
  • Enter the Amount and Send Date
  • Select which Middlesex Federal account that you want the funds to be withdrawn from.
  • You can even add a note.
  • An email or text message notification will be sent to the receiver with instructions on how to claim the money. The receiver has ten (10) calendar days to collect the funds. They do not need to have an existing Popmoney account.
    Receive Money:
  • Click on the "Preference" tab and enter the email(s) or phone number(s) of contacts that you want to receive funds from.
  • Allow automatic deposits into the Middlesex Federal account(s) that you "Enable".
    Request Money:
  • Select or add a contact. You can request money from up to five contacts.
  • Enter the Amount. Different amounts can be entered for each person.
  • An email or text message notification will be sent.

How much does Popmoney cost?
Middlesex Federal does not charge for this service.

What are the different ways that I can send money to someone?
You can send money using a recipient's:

Email address: An email will be sent to the recipient with instructions on how to direct the payment into their account. If the recipient does not respond to the notification after 3 days, a reminder email message will be sent.

Mobile number: A text message will be sent to the recipient with instructions on how to direct the payment into their account. If the recipient does not respond to the notification after 3 days, a reminder text message will be sent.

Bank Account Information (routing and account number): Money will be directly deposited into the recipient's account.

How does the recipient receive their money?
The recipient will receive an email or text message notifying them that you have requested to send them money. If they already use Popmoney, they most likely will not have to do anything. If they are not a current Popmoney user, they will need to set up a Popmoney account at their financial institution or at Popmoney.com in order to receive the funds.

When will funds be deducted from my account?
Next day payments scheduled prior to 10 pm ET on a business day will be deducted on the delivery date. Standard three day payments scheduled prior to 1 am will be deducted next business day.

How long will it take to send or receive a payment?
Payments will take 1-3 days to process for standard delivery. Next day delivery is also available.

Can I cancel a payment?
As long as the payment hasn't begun processing, you can cancel it. If it has begun processing, a stop payment may be placed for a fee. Refer to Fee Schedule for details.

When will the recipient receive payment?
The timing to receive payment depends on the type of account used. The delivery speed will be displayed when you schedule the payment. It could take additional time if your contact has not used Popmoney or if they have to log in and accept the payment.

Are there limits on my payments?
For your protection, limits have been created on how much money and how many payments can be sent during various time periods. Limits may vary by user and apply to the amount you can send per transaction, per day and per month, as well as to total outstanding payments. Click on "View Limits" next to the Amounts field for specifics.

How fast can I send and receive money?
A recipient can receive money in as little as one business day; in some cases, it may take longer. For example, if you send an email or mobile payment and the recipient is not yet registered for Popmoney, he/she must sign up for the service. Also, if you exceed your next-day payment limits, then payments will be delivered within three business days. Limits may vary by user. Click on "View Limits" next to the Amounts field for specifics.

Can I send a payment to someone who doesn't have a Popmoney account?
Yes, but they will need to create an account to claim the payment. The recipient will receive an email or text notification instructing them on the next steps to take. If they are not a current Popmoney user, they will need to set up a Popmoney account at their financial institution or Popmoney.com.

What if a recipient forgets to claim the payment?
Recipients will have ten (10) days to claim a payment, and they will receive automatic reminders on the 3rd and 7th day. After the 10th day, the payment will be refunded to you, and you will need to resubmit the transfer if you so choose.

Is Popmoney secure?
Your trust and safety are our highest priority. From the moment information is sent to Popmoney to the time it is stored and accessed again, it is encrypted using industry leading software, hardware, and algorithms. Security is also utilized at specific points and actions in the product. For example, to help prevent an unauthorized person from fraudulently depositing someone else's payment, one-time passcodes are used. For every initial payment to a new email address or mobile phone number, a one-time passcode is sent to the user. The user must provide that passcode back to Popmoney to verify "ownership" of that mobile number or email address before he/she can deposit the payment.
